Swearing Can Lessen Pain Perception

We all know the acute pain of stubbing our toe or slamming our finger. How can swearing help? Researchers from Keele University have found that swearing at such times can have a "pain-lessening" effect. For example, the researchers discovered that study volunteers were able to keep their hand submerged in freezing water longer when repeating a swear word.
